A Start

The more i looked a Paul Strand's photos I liked what I saw, so I chose him. I also learned more about modernism, and liked how Strand embraced all types of photography, i.e. portraits, landscapes, etc.

Here are some of my attempts, i converted them to black and white using photoshop elements 7.0... yuck, i can't wait to get cs4 this week ;)

These are some great shots. I think you have a good grasp on a theme for your homage.

I LOVE your pic of the church on Church St. Also the railroad tracks shot is great. They seem to never end. Nice work. :)

You have some great blk/wht shots here. Particularly the building with the busted out windows. Would it be possible for you to get in closer for a more dramatic shot?

Matt,
I really like your choices of photos. My favorite is the breakingthrough photo of the sky, moon, water, clouds and reflections off the water. In the center bottom it appears to be the reflection of the moon. I also like the alley way with the vines growing across the beam and the railroad tracks that look like they go for miles. Nicely done!

Good job Matt - these, as well as your final images look great. I like that you went for shots with interesting, unique lighting. Especially with the subject matter and showing in monotone, the lighting plays a huge roll in the success of the images, and you're getting it!
